Photo Friday: 10-Cent-Kindermenü / 10-Cent-Children's-Menu

Okay, billiger geht nicht: 10 Cent für ein Kindermenü, das auch noch halbwegs gesund ist (naja, zumindest ist ein Apfel und ein Cranberry-Saft dabei). Solltet ihr in München wohnen, dann ab zu IKEA-Brunnthal, die feiern noch bis morgen 10-jähriges Jubiläum mit Hammerpreisen...unter anderem besagtes Kindermenü für 10 Cent! Da lohnt das Kochen ja nun wirklich nicht...

Okay, now that is cheap: 10 cent for a children's menu that is a little healthy as well (well, at least it comes with an apple and a cranberry juice). If you live in Munich, head over to IKEA-Brunnthal, they are celebrating their 10th anniversary till tomorrow with heaps of bargains...one of them the Children's menu for 10 Cent...you can't cook for that price....

DIY Babyschuhe / DIY Baby Shoes

Ich bin über dieses Tutorial für Babyschuhe gestolpert. Es gefällt mir vor allem weil es so einfach aussieht. Das Tutorial findet ihr bei "Allcrafts".

Alles was ihr braucht ist etwas Stoff, Kunstleder, Filzstoff als Futter und ein paar Knöpfe als Dekoration. Ihr könnt auch eine alte Jeans als Stoff her nehmen - es gibt quasi keine Grenzen!

I found this amazing tutorial for a pair of cute little Baby Shoes. What I like about it best is that it is sooo easy! Check out the free tutorial with patterns over at "Allcrafts".

All you need is some fabric, fake leather, felt for the inner sole and some cute little buttons as decorations. You could also use an old jeans instead of the fake leather - there are no limitations really

Ich habe mir das Schnittmuster ausgedruckt und alle Teile ausgeschnitten. Ich habe zusätzlich noch ein weiteres Stück als Krempe ausgeschnitten, damit der schöne Stoff richtig zur Geltung kommt. Den Filz braucht man laut Schnittmuster nicht wirklich. Ich habe ihn aber zusätzlich genommen, damit die kleinen Füße auch schön warm bleiben, da meine Süße im Winter zur Welt kommt ;-)

I printed out the pattern and cut out all the little pieces. I also cut a little border so the cute fabric would show over the top part. The tutorial does not say you need to include felt in the sole but since I was having a Winter baby I thought a little extra felt would keep those little footsie-wootsies warm ;-)

Das Nähen gestaltete sich etwas schwierig, da die Schuhe so klein sind. Es gab Momente da war ich zugegebener Maßen ziemlich frustriert. Ich war so stolz auf mich, als der Schuh fertig war. Bis ich realisiert habe, dass Babies gewöhnlich mit zwei Füßen geboren werden und ich noch einen Zweiten nähen muss ;-) Aber der ganze Stress hat sich gelohnt. Ich habe die Schuhe noch mit Knöpfen dekoriert. Fertig sind ein paar süße und einzigartige Babyschuhe, die kein anderer hat! Sind sie nicht süß?

Sewing them together was a little tricky cause the booties are so small and I have to admit I was a little frustrated at times. But I was so proud of myself when the little bootie was finished then I realized that babies are usually born with two feet and that I would need to make another one ;-) But all the trouble was definitely worth it. I decorated the little booties with some buttons and finished were some cute and unique baby shoes that noone else will have! Aren't they just gorgeous?

Bilderrahmen / Picture Frame

Ich hab eine riesen Fotowand im Wohnzimmer mit vielen alten und aktuellen Fotos in verschieden großen Bilderrahmen. Manche Bilder entstanden noch in der guten alten Negativ-Zeit und da (zumindest bei mir) Negative gerne verschwinden, kann ich die Fotos nicht nachmachen lassen. Da ich sie ja einmal in Papierform habe, sollte das weniger tragisch sein, doch leider haben die Fotos einen weißen Rand und deswegen ein komisches Format, so dass sie nicht in meine Bilderrahmen passen...der weiße Rand ist auf einer Seite dicker als auf der anderen...

I have heaps of old and current picture frames in my living room. Some of them are from the pre-digital-era - unfortunately I tend to misplace old negatives. Since I already have those photos printed, the lack of negatives shouldn't be a problem. Unfortunately some of the pictures have a white border and because of that they don't fit in my frames. The border is bigger on one side than on the other...

Erst dachte ich es würde mich nicht weiter stören...aber wie es so ist, tat es das dann irgendwann doch. Ich habe lange überlegt, wie ich das lösen konnte...verkleinern wollte ich die Bilder nicht, da sie ja meine einzigen Exemplare sind.

Und dann kam mir eine einfache, günstige und stylische Idee. Ich hab einfach etwas Spitzenborte genommen und diese als Rand um das Foto angebracht...jetzt sieht man den unterschiedlich großen Rand nicht mehr und die Fotos sind ein doppelter Hingucker ;-)

First I thought it wouldn't bother me, but guess what - it does! I obviously didn't want to cut them since they are the only versions I have...

And then I had a simple, cheap and stylish idea. I took some lace ribbon and put it as a frame around the pictures...now you can't see the weird white border...and it looks cute ;-)

Photo Friday: Der Herbst ist da / Autumn is here

Ein sicheres Zeichen dafür, dass der Sommer nun endgültig vorbei ist, ist die Tatsache, dass wieder mehr und mehr UGG Boots (und damit meine ich auch alle anderen Schuhe dieser Art) das Straßenbild  bestimmen...auch ich habe meine geliebten Boots schon aus dem Sommerschlaf geholt.

Ich liebe meine UGGs, sie sind warm, wasserdicht und vor allem soooo bequem. Allerdings kenne ich den ein oder anderen Mann, der diese Treter total abstoßend findet, aber darauf kann ich (und bestimmt auch die ein oder andere Frau) leider keine Rücksicht nehmen und die Männerwelt muss sich damit abfinden, dass diese Schuhe die nächsten 5 Monate wohl einfach dazu gehören ;-)

A sure sign that summer is over for good is the fact that more and more UGG boots (and I include every other boot of that kind by saying this) is seen on the street....my boots had their first outing today.

I just love my UGGs, they are warm, waterproof and soooo comfy. But I do know a few men who think they look horrible....well, too bad, I (and probably a lot of other women as well) can't help that, so guys: better prepare yourself for seeing heaps of UGG boots over the next 5 months.

Krabbeldecke / Baby's Play Rug

Babies lieben es auf dem Boden herum zu robben, aber unser Teppich sollte natürlich nicht leiden, wenn die Kleinen mal Spucken. Und glaubt mir sie spucken VIEL!!!!
Also habe ich eine kleine Krabbeldecke für meine Süße gequiltet.

Alles was ihr braucht sind sechs oder mehr verschieden farbende Stoffe, Quillt-Füllung, passendes Garn und Schrägband - und los kann's gehen.

Babies love having a good kick-around on the floor but we don't want our nice carpet to suffer when they spill. And babies spill A LOT!!!!

So I've decided to make a little quilted play rug for my baby girl.

All you need is 6 or more color-coordinated fabrics, batting, matching thread and binding and you are set to go.

Ich habe 73 3" große Quadrate für die Vorderseite ausgeschnitten und etwas grünen Sweatshirt-Stoff für die Rückseite.

I've cut out 72 3" squares for the front and used some green sweatshirt-fabric for the back.

Alles zusammen nähen und noch das Schrägband anbringen und fertig ist eine Krabbeldecke für die Kleinen. Euer Teppich wird euch danken!

Sew it all together, add some binding and finished is a lovely little play rug for your little one. Your carpet will thank you!

Nähkurs...all die kleinen Tipps und Tricks - Sewing class...all those little tips and tricks!

Ich hab mir ja das Nähen selber beigebracht....als ich aber beschlossen hatte für Miss M. auch Kleidung zu nähen, dachte ich es wäre vielleicht doch ganz gut mal einen Nähkurs zu besuchen (allein schon aus dem Grund, dass Schnittmuster für mich bis dato immer unverständlich waren).

Es hat sich gelohnt: Schnittmuster kann ich nun problemlos umsetzen und ich habe auch ein paar Tricks gelernt, die das Nähen einfacher machen. Für manche von euch sind die vielleicht selbstverständlich, aber für mich waren sie echt hilfreich.

Hier drei einfache Tricks...

I taught myself how to sew...but when I decided to sew clothes for Miss M. as well, I thought visiting a sewing class might be a good idea (simply because I just didn't understand those darn sewing patterns).

It worked: I can read sewing patterns now and I even picked up a few helpful tricks that make sewing so much easier.

Here are three simple tricks:

1. Feststecken, feststecken, feststecken: ich dachte immer eine Handvoll Stecknadeln würden reichen, aber ich habe schnell gelernt, je mehr nadeln desto besser und auch, dass man über die Nadeln drüber nähen kann, wenn man sie senkrecht reinsteckt.

1. Pin, pin, pin: I always thought a handful of needles would be enough, but I soon discovered the more needles the better and that you can sew over the needles when putting them in vertical.

2. Runde Ecken einschneiden: Beim Nähen von runden Ecken ist es wichtig sie vor dem Umdrehen einzuschneiden. Einfach vorsichtig kleine Dreiecke bis zur Naht reinschneiden. Wenn der Stoff auf rechts gedreht wird, kommt es nicht zu irgendwelchen unschönen Wölbungen.

2. Cut round corners: When sewing round corners or circles, it's important to cut them before turning. Simply cut little triangles close to the seam. There won't be any bumps when turning the fabric.

3. Klebeband: Findet ihr es auch schwierig beim Nähen diese winzigen Striche mit der Nahtzugabe im Auge zu behalten? Die Lösung: Klebeband. Einfach an der entsprechenden Stelle (1cm, 5/8 inch etc.) ein Klebeband anbringen und schon ist es ganz einfach gerade zu nähen.

3. Duck tape: Do you also find it hard to see those tiny little marks with the seam allowance on your sewing machine while sewing? The solution: Duck tape. Just put some duck tape where the suitable seam allowance is (1cm, 5/5 inch etc.) and sewing in line won't be a problem anymore.

Ein Quilt für Miss M. / A Quilt for Miss M.

Als ich schwanger war, habe ich bereits angefangen einen Quilt für meine Kleine zu planen (auch wenn ich da noch nicht wusste, dass ich ein Mädchen erwarte). Das Besondere an diesem Quilt ist, dass ich Fotos von Miss M. verwendet habe.
Hier ist eine Anleitung:

Ich habe viele verschiedene Stoffe benutzt (da ich nicht wusste was ich erwarte, habe ich neutrale Farben benutzt, die sowohl für Jungs als auch für Mädchen passen). Ich habe viele 2,5" große Quadrate ausgeschnitten und sie zu einem langen Streifen zusammen genäht.

When I was pregnant I was already planning a quilt for my little baby girl (although at that time I did not know yet I was having a girl). What is special about this quilt is: I've included pictures of Miss M.!

Here's how i did it:

I started out with several different fabrics (since I did not know what I was having I chose neutral colors that would go well for a boy or a girl). I've cut out several 2,5" squares and sewed them together to a long strip.

Dann bin ich zu einem dieser Läden gegangen, die Fotos auf T-Shirts drucken und habe viele Fotos von Miss M. auf ein weißes Baumwolle-Laken drucken lassen. Miss M.'s Zimmer hat Vorhänge mit süßen Hunden drauf, da ich davon noch Stoff übrig hatte, habe ich auch einige Hunde ausgeschnitten.

Ich habe sehr viel orangen Stoff benutzt, da es mir am Ende aber etwas zu orange-lastig erschien, habe ich mich das erste Mal an Appliqués versucht und auch passendes Band als Dekoration verwendet.

Then I went to one of those shops that print pictures on T-Shirts and asked them to print several pictures of Miss M. on my white cotton sheet. Miss M.'s room has cute curtains with dogs on them and since I had some of the fabric left over I also included some cute little doggies on the quilt.

I used some of the orange fabric for a frame around the pictures. Since the quilt turned out a little too orange-y I used some of the other fabrics for heart-, stars- and circle-appliqués and I also included some matching ribbon.

Für den hinteren Teil des Quilts habe ich den Rest des orangen Stoffs und einen der Quadrat-Streifen benutzt. Für den Rand habe ich weißen Stoff mit grünen Punkten verwendet.

Hier ist der fertige Quilt:

For the back i only used one strip of the 2,5" squares and the rest of the orange fabric. I finished the quilt with some cute fabric with green dots on a white background.

Da ich viel zu viele Quadrate ausgeschnitten hatte, habe ich kurzerhand noch ein passendes Kissen genäht ;-)

Since I have cut to many 2,5" squares, I had some left over to make a matching pillow ;-)
